De Trafford Syrah 393

De Traffords Shiraz
After considering this for several years, we decided to change the name of this wine to Syrah 393. Increasingly Shiraz is perceived to come from Australia, while Syrah come from the rest of the world. In South Africa the name Shiraz is still used more than Syrah, which is why we used Shiraz in the first place, but increasing Syrah is becomming more common, especially for more European style wines. ‘393’ Refers to the vineyards height above sea level, it is the same vineyard we use for our flagship Elevation 393 blend. We chose 2009 as one of the best vintages to introduce this change.

We are extremely proud of our track record in the ‘Wine Spectator’ magazine scoring consistently high scores.

Syrah 393 2009: “I LOVE this wine. It is INTENSE, concentrated and so well balanced. The 16% abv is irrelevant to me given the complex layers of flavors & importantly it’s balance. Dark red with brooding notes of sweet spice and back berry. Firm, full and finely textured – sweet fruit with pepper & spice. Long and firm. Painfully youthful. In a word: BLACKBELT.”
